Engine, Brake & Suspension Repair in Hickory, NC

Transmissions are our specialty, but they're not all we fix. Engine repair, brakes and suspension work are available for customers who'd rather keep everything at one shop they already trust.

We’re a transmission shop at heart, and that won’t change. But a lot of our customers have been bringing their vehicles to us for years. Once you’ve found a mechanic you trust, you don’t want to start over somewhere else when your brakes start grinding. So we also handle engine repair, brakes and suspension.

The same approach applies here as it does on the transmission bench. We diagnose before we replace, explain what we found in plain English, and tell you what’s urgent and what can wait. On engine work, that might mean tracking down a misfire, fixing an oil or coolant leak, or doing cylinder head and gasket repairs. On brakes, it’s pads, rotors, calipers, hoses and fluid. On suspension, it’s the ball joints, tie rods, bushings, shocks and struts that keep a truck or car tracking straight.

There’s also a practical reason to keep the work in one place. When a transmission is out of the vehicle, some other repairs become much easier to reach, including a leaking rear main seal and worn engine or transmission mounts. Because we’re already in there, we can point those out while the access is open, and you decide whether to do them.

As one customer put it: “I’ve had Transpecialists replace transmissions or service transmissions in all my vehicles. This is a place you can trust.” That trust is what this service is for. If you’re in Hickory and would rather have one shop that knows your vehicle, call us first.

Signs you may need this service

  • Check-engine light, misfire, rough idle or loss of power
  • Oil or coolant leaks, or the engine running hot
  • Squealing, grinding or a soft pedal when braking
  • Clunks over bumps, wandering steering or uneven tire wear
  • Your transmission is here and you'd like other work handled at the same time

These are common signs — a real inspection is what confirms the cause.

What we check

  • Engine codes, compression and leak sources
  • Cylinder heads, gaskets and cooling system parts
  • Brake pads, rotors, calipers, hoses and fluid
  • Ball joints, tie rods, control arm bushings, shocks and struts
  • Engine and transmission mounts

How it works

  1. 1Tell us what you're noticing and we'll inspect the vehicle.
  2. 2Explain the findings and what's urgent versus what can wait.
  3. 3Quote the work. Nothing gets done without your approval.
  4. 4Make the repair and road test.

Frequently asked questions

Do you only work on transmissions?

Transmissions are our specialty and most of our work, but we also do engine repair, brakes and suspension. Many customers simply prefer to keep their vehicle with one shop they trust.

Can you do other repairs while my transmission is out?

Often, yes. Some jobs, such as a rear main seal or engine and transmission mounts, are easier to reach while the transmission is out. We'll point out anything worth doing and let you decide.

Do you work on both imports and domestics for general repair?

Yes. We work on import and domestic cars, trucks and SUVs. If you're unsure whether we're the right shop for a specific job, call (828) 855-3444 and ask. We'll tell you straight.

Transmission acting up? Let’s find out why.

Tell us what your vehicle is doing and we’ll take it from there. The request takes a couple of minutes, or call and talk to the shop directly. Se habla español.
