We drop the pan, replace the filter and refill with the fluid your transmission calls for. We also service differentials and transfer cases. It's the simplest way to keep a healthy transmission healthy.
Transmission fluid does several jobs at once. It cools, lubricates, carries hydraulic pressure and lets the clutches grip. Over time heat breaks it down, and the clutches shed material into it. Old fluid doesn’t protect the way new fluid does. Changing it on schedule is one of the least expensive things you can do to avoid a rebuild.
Our standard service is a pan drop. We drain the fluid, remove the pan, and look at what’s on the magnet and in the filter. That tells us more than a quick drain-and-fill. Some fine material is normal. Chunks of metal or friction material mean there’s a problem, and we’ll tell you about it before we button things back up. Then we clean the pan, install a new filter and gasket, and refill with the exact fluid your unit calls for. CVTs and many newer automatics are particular about fluid type, and the wrong one can cause real damage.
We also service differentials and transfer cases. Gear oil is easy to overlook, especially on trucks and 4WDs that tow or work off-road. One customer came in for a transmission flush and a differential flush and had both done the same day. That’s typical for a straightforward service, though it depends on the day’s schedule.
If you tow, haul, or drive the hills between Hickory and the Blue Ridge foothills, your fluid works harder than the “normal” maintenance schedule assumes. Ask us what interval makes sense for how you drive.
Already noticing slipping or harsh shifts? Start with a diagnosis instead. Fresh fluid can’t undo wear that’s already happened.
These are common signs — a real inspection is what confirms the cause.
Not exactly. A pan-drop service lets us replace the filter and see what's collected in the pan, which tells us a lot about the transmission's health. Depending on the vehicle, we may recommend a pan service, a fluid exchange, or both. We'll explain why.
Usually not. If the clutches are already worn, fresh fluid won't bring them back. If the transmission is already showing symptoms, start with a diagnosis so you don't pay for a service that won't solve the problem.
Yes. Transmission and differential fluid service can be done in the same visit, and a straightforward service is often finished the same day. Call ahead so we can fit it into the schedule.
It depends on the vehicle and how you use it. Towing, hauling and hilly or stop-and-go driving all call for shorter intervals than the 'normal' schedule. Check your owner's manual or ask us when you call.
Tell us what your vehicle is doing and we’ll take it from there. The request takes a couple of minutes, or call and talk to the shop directly. Se habla español.
