Towing to Our Hickory Transmission Shop

If your transmission has quit and the vehicle won't move, or you shouldn't drive it, call us. We can help get it to the shop. Ask about towing when you call, since it may be included with rebuild work.

When a transmission fails, it doesn’t wait for a convenient moment. It quits on the I-40 on-ramp, in a parking lot, or halfway up a steep driveway. If your vehicle won’t move, or you’re not sure it’s safe to drive, don’t push it. Call us at (828) 855-3444.

Towing is one of the services we offer, and there’s a wrecker in our shop. Tell us where you are, what the vehicle is, and what it was doing before it stopped. We’ll talk through how to get it to us. Ask about towing when you call. Towing may be included with transmission rebuild work, and we’ll tell you what applies before anything is arranged.

Getting a tow instead of limping it in matters. A transmission that’s slipping, overheating or leaking fluid can do a lot more damage in a few miles of hard driving, and what could have been a valve body or solenoid repair can become a full rebuild. AWD and 4WD vehicles need extra care too, because many of them shouldn’t be towed with any wheels on the ground.

Once your vehicle is at our shop on the northeast side of Hickory, we start with a diagnosis. You’ll hear from us with what we found and a quote before any work begins. That way you’re never committed to a repair just because the vehicle came in on a hook.

Signs you may need this service

  • The vehicle won't move in Drive or Reverse
  • The transmission is slipping badly or overheating
  • Warning lights and limp mode, and you're a long way from the shop
  • Fluid is pouring out underneath
  • Grinding or banging noises that get worse as you drive

These are common signs — a real inspection is what confirms the cause.

What we check

  • Where the vehicle is and where it needs to go
  • Whether it's 2WD, AWD or 4WD, which affects how it has to be towed
  • What the vehicle was doing before it stopped, so diagnosis can start right away
  • Whether the work you need may include towing

Frequently asked questions

Is towing free?

Towing may be included with transmission rebuild work. Ask about it when you call and we'll tell you exactly what applies to your situation before anything is arranged.

Should I keep driving a slipping transmission to get it to the shop?

We'd advise against it if you can avoid it. Driving on a transmission that's slipping or overheating can turn a smaller repair into a bigger one. Call us first.

My vehicle is AWD. Does that matter for towing?

Yes. Many AWD and 4WD vehicles should be moved on a flatbed rather than towed with wheels on the ground, to avoid damaging the drivetrain. Let us know what you drive when you call.

Can I have my vehicle towed in after hours?

Our shop hours are Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM. Call during those hours to arrange towing, or to tell us a vehicle is on its way.

Transmission acting up? Let’s find out why.

Tell us what your vehicle is doing and we’ll take it from there. The request takes a couple of minutes, or call and talk to the shop directly. Se habla español.
